I travelled to Kyoto with a woman from the Workshop, using my JR rail pass which I activated at the Shinjuku Station. We arrived here in the evening in time to have something to eat and settle in to the hotel.

Today we went to a shop called Tanaka Nao (which is like dyer's heaven), where I purchased some dyeing materials to assist katazome techniques. It was fun using the subway and learning a bit about the suburbs in Kyoto. I loved it.

After a quick lunch we went by taxi to a suburb in the mountains which was a long way.....here we visited Yoshiko Jinzenji (www.yoshikoquilt.com/) Japanese textile artist - her place is really beautiful with lots of wood and beautiful pottery in elegant designs as only the Japanese can do.

Yoshiko gave us a cup of tea in a beautiful cup on a beautiful saucer and some fire baked sweet potato which was delicious.

It was fun going through the countryside to the mountain suburbs seeing the land. Yoshiko drove us down closer to the city so we could catch the subway train on the way we passed the Imperial palace.
